Financing is often the key to turning energy efficiency and decarbonization goals into real projects – but navigating the options can be challenging. This introductory training is designed specifically for local government finance staff who play a critical role in making these projects happen. Participants will gain a clear understanding of why financing is needed for common energy projects like HVAC upgrades, solar installations, and lighting retrofits, and learn how different financing mechanisms – bonds, loans, leases, on-bill, performance contracts, power purchase agreements, and more – can help overcome budget constraints and deferred maintenance challenges. This training will also cover common barriers to financing, strategies to address them, and provide real-world case studies of successful projects.
Key Words/Topics Covered: Decarbonization, Electrification, Energy Efficiency, Finance, Municipal Buildings
